To: Mr. Wesley Anderson

Dear Mr. Anderson;

I am writing in regards to your efforts concerning organizing public seminars by speaker Dr. Edward de Bono. I have heard many complimentary qualities about Dr. de Bono and his views on creative thinking. I am interested in attending and learning practical ideas on this topic from an international expert.

I am also curious as to what functions your business modernization and technology corporation performs. I have extensive knowledge and training in computers on an education level and I am wondering how your company fits creativity and technology into the field of education. What are your company views on "reinventing education?"

Finally, I would like additional information concerning your membership and your bookstore, The Resource Mart. What cost is involved for membership and what are the benefits? Is the bookstore open to the public now? Where is it located and what are the business hours?

I look forward to learning more about your company and hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

A student in P506 Summer 1995

List of Readings:

Smart Schools by David Perkins

I would rate this book as fair. There were some interesting points, such as the four problems with knowledge pointed out in chapter 2. I also believe the goals of retention, understanding, and the active use of knowledge are an effective and concise way to look at how education should be. However, this book was mainly theory. I appreciate books that are more applicable.

Blueprints for Thinking in the Cooperative Classroom by James Bellanca and Robin Fogarty

As of Thursday, June 22, I had read the requirements of chapters 1-6. From what I had read, I enjoyed this book much more than Perkins. I liked the format of introducing a concept, then giving an example to follow for elementary, middle school, and secondary. Since I teach sixth grade, I felt as though I could take ideas from both the elementary lesson and the middle school lesson. I like books like this one because I can ge immediate concepts and ideas and take them back to my classroom. I am looking forward to finishing this book.

Creativity is Forever by Gary A. Davis

I purchased this book along with the other tow, but I had not started reading it yet. My plan is to read it this summer.

Project Input

For my final project, another student and I had already completed the planning, researching and writing of a unit on Medieval Times. My contribution to the unit was bringing many ideas and materials to our planning meetings. We had a brainstorming of ideas. While the other student wrote the objectives of the unit, I wrote the statement objectives for each activity. We both contributed the worksheets and activity sheets. While the other student typed the final copy, I got the worksheets together. We also communicated through my mother, who ran the materials back and forth between the two of us. I proofread her objectives in the hospital, while she read my activity statements. Unfortunately I am unable to be a part of the final presentation.
