Cooperative Prereading Activities:
- asking and recording questions to be answered.
- scanning text/headings and making content predictions.
- relating passage content to prior knowledge/experiences.
- generating analogies and inferences about the text.
- charting, outlining, or graphing for comparisons/contrasts.
Cooperative Postreading Activities:
- explaining/expanding on one's knowledge discoveries.
- discussing and summarizing main ideas.
- deciding upon the relevance and utility of information.
- identifying story structure and constructing story theme.
- providing hints/supports in comprehension monitoring.
- critiquing missing info & diagnosing misunderstandings.
- paraphrasing, defending, and refining conflicting ideas.
- modeling question-asking and other cognitive strategies.
- evaluating and comparing oneself to others.
- evaluating strategic effectiveness.
