MOOCs and Open Education is an informative and promising new edited collection pertaining to massively open online courses and open education resources (OERs). Digital elearning technology has swiftly developed in terms of interactivity and the opportunity to reach participants in all parts of the world since the emergence of the Internet. The transformational technological influence of the Internet offers potent types of communication and interaction which are essential for online education. There are scarcely any trends in technology-enhanced learning over the past few decades that can match the sudden arrival of massively open online courses. It is now impossible to cover these MOOCs with one definition because there are many different categories of massive open online courses. Some MOOC classes are based on recorded video conversations plus facilitated interaction or discussion forums. Some MOOC courses are in response to increases in the demand for indoctrination and blended learning. MOOCs are surely a meaningful change agent influencing electronic education technology today.

MOOCs and Open Education reviews the basis for understanding the unprecedented educational opportunities available to individual scientists academics, universities, and societies. This 2015 Routledge edited collection describes several key gains in MOOC courses. This educative new book also investigates open educational resources (OERs) and online education subjects. This book includes Forward #2 which is titled “Open(ing up) Education for All...Boosted by MOOCs”. The first part of this book includes Chapter #3 by Kumiko Aoki. The second part of this book is about “Open Education Opportunities Now and On the Horizon” and includes Chapter #6 which is titled “Open Education at the University of Cape Town”. The third part of this book includes Chapter #8 by Maggie Hartnett, Mark Brown, Amy Wilson. This book is about “Thoughts on the Quality of MOOCs and OER” and includes Chapter #12. The fifth part of this book is about “Innovative Courses, Programs, and Models of Instruction” and includes Chapter #15. This chapter was written by Chuck Severance.
