MOOCs and Open Education Around the World is a thought-provoking and promising new edited collection pertaining to massive open online courses (MOOC) and open education resources (OER). E-learning technology has rapidly grown in terms of interactivity and the ability to reach people in every nation on earth since the emergence of the Internet. The transformational technological impact of the Internet offers forms of communication and interaction which are essential for electronic education technology. There are not many trends in digital learning technology over the past few decades that can match the sudden arrival of these MOOC courses. It has become impossible to cover MOOC classes with one definition because there are many different categories of massively open online courses. Some MOOC courses are based on video discussions plus facilitated interaction or discussion forums. Some massively open online courses are an effort to meet increases in the demand for elearning and e-learning. Massively open online courses are undoubtedly a significant change agent influencing blended learning today.

This book includes Chapter #4. The third part of this book includes Chapter #9 by Jeff Haywood, Amy Woodgate, and David Dewhurst. This book includes Chapter #10 which is titled “AMP: A Tool for Characterizing the Pedagogical Approaches of MOOCs”. The fifth part of this book is about “Innovative Courses, Programs, and Models of Instruction” and includes Chapter #17.
