MOOCs and Open Education is an enlightening and promising edited collection pertaining to massively open online courses (MOOCs) and open educational resources (OERs). Elearning has quickly expanded in terms of interactivity and the opportunity to reach participants in nations all over the world since the emergence of the Internet. The transformational technological impact of the World Wide Web allows powerful kinds of communication and interaction which are essential for digital learning technology. There are not too many trends in digital learning over the past few decades that can match the sudden arrival of these MOOC courses. It is now impossible to cover these MOOC classes with one definition because there are many different categories of MOOC courses. Some massively open online courses are based on video discussions plus facilitated interaction or discussion forums. Some massively open online courses are a supply-side response to decades-long increases in the demand for training and education. MOOCs are certainly a meaningful change agent influencing blended learning today.

MOOCs and Open Education Around the World deals with the potential of online education to provide access to new opportunities. This 2015 edited collection deals with numerous critical changes in massively open courses (MOOC). This educative new book also articulates open educational resources (OER) and online education topics. The front matter of this book includes Forward #2 by Fred Mulder. The first part of this book is about “MOOCs and Open Education: Historical and Critical Reflections” and includes Chapter #2. This book includes Chapter #5 by Carina Bossu, David Bull and Mark Brown. The third part of this book is about “Researching and Evaluating Notions of MOOCs and Openness” and includes Chapter #7 by Markus Deimann, Alexander Lipka, and Theo Bastiaens which is titled “Strange Bedfellows?!: What can MOOCs learn from Distance Education?”. This book is about “Thoughts on the Quality of MOOCs and OER” and includes Chapter #12 by Fred Mulder and Darco Jansen which is titled “MOOCs for Opening Up Education and the OpenupEd Initiative”.
