MOOCs and Open Education is an interesting and promising new book having to do with massive open online courses (MOOCs) and open educational resources (OER). Online education has rapidly advanced in terms of interactivity and the ability to reach humans in nations all over the world since the emergence of the Internet. The transformative technological impact of the World Wide Web allows kinds of communication and interaction which are essential for elearning. There are not too many trends in online education technology over the past few decades that can match the sudden arrival of massively open online courses. We can no longer cover MOOCs with one definition because there are many different categories of massive open online courses. Some MOOC courses are based on prerecorded video lectures plus facilitated interaction or discussion forums. Some MOOC classes are an effort to meet recent increases in the demand for elearning and e-learning. These massive open online courses are definitely a meaningful change agent influencing digital education technology today.

MOOCs and Open Education considers the current state of education and open education resources (OER) in general. This 2015 Routledge edited collection explores several extraordinary improvements in massively open online courses (MOOC). This compelling new book also talks about open education resources and online education topics. This book includes a preface by Curtis J. Bonk, Mimi Miyoung Lee, Thomas C. Reeves, and Thomas H. Reynolds which is titled “Actions Leading to MOOCs and Open Education Around the World”. This book includes Chapter #3 by Kumiko Aoki. This book is about “Open Education Opportunities Now and On the Horizon” and includes Chapter #6. This book is about “Researching and Evaluating Notions of MOOCs and Openness” and includes Chapter #8 which is titled “MOOCs Downunder: Insights from the Open2Study”. The fourth part of this book includes Chapter #11 by Sanjaya Mishra, and Asha Kanwar. This book includes Chapter #16 which is titled “The Collaborative Design and Development of MOOCs for Teacher Professional Development”. This chapter was written by Bernard Robin and Sara McNeil.
