MOOCs and Open Education Around the World is an edifying and promising book related to massive open online courses (MOOC) and open educational resources (OERs). Electronic educational technology has rapidly expanded in terms of interactivity and the ability to reach learners all over the world since the emergence of the Internet. The transformational technological impact of the World Wide Web makes available types of communication and interaction which are essential for education. There are not too many trends in elearning technology over the past half-century that can match the sudden arrival of massively open online courses. We can no longer cover these MOOCs with one definition because there are many different categories of massively open online courses. Some MOOC classes are based on recorded video lectures plus facilitated interaction or discussion forums. Some MOOC classes are a supply-side effort to respond to decades-long increases in the demand for instruction and education. Massively open online courses are without question becoming a meaningful catalyst for innovations in e-learning.
